Lake Texoma was constructed in 1944 on the Red River between Texas and Oklahoma. The purpose was for flood protection and hydroelectric generation. Then, in 1965, striped bass were introduced into the lake. Since 1965, the 89,000 acre lake has produce striped bass up to 35.2 pounds. Through the years, Lake Texoma has become one of the premier inland striped bass fisheries in the nation. To attest to the number of striped bass in the lake, Texoma has the most liberal bag limit for striped bass in the nation." When fishing within Lake Texoma Area, each person who is 17 years of age or older must possess a Texoma fishing license. The cost of the license is $12.00 and is good to December 31 of the year purchased. Licenses may be purchased at Wal-Mart or most of the tackle shops around the lake. The license must be purchased prior to the trip departure.
